VAT Relief

An Overview

If you're buying the Advance Mobility Freedom or Accessories for a child due to their special needs then you don't pay VAT.

It doesn't have to be a physical condition it can be behavioural and if the child doesn't yet have a diagnosis but is currently under review then the condition "Global Development Delay" is enough to make you eligible for VAT Relief.

An Explanation

You have to pay VAT on everything you buy, almost everything....there are some exceptions.

If you buy a pushchair for a child because they are too young to walk then you pay VAT, it is expected that as a parent this piece of kit is your responsibility. If instead you buy a pushchair for a child who needs it due to a medical condition, then that's a little different and you don't have to pay VAT.

VAT Relief is not just available for a child with a physical disability who is unable/struggles to walk, many parents who buy from us have a child who can consistently walk and are buying the buggy due to safety or sensory reasons.

Examples of common diagnoses used for VAT Relief:

  • Global Development Delay
  • Autism
  • ASD
  • Hypermobility
  • Down Syndrome
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Epilepsy
  • Gene Mutations
  • Visually Impaired

How it Works

It's not that you have to pay VAT then claim a refund, instead we won't charge VAT in the first place, it will be removed in the checkout.

Instead of the VAT money we have to give to keep on record some details about the child and their diagnosis or a VAT Relief Declaration Form (we do not need any medical documents to prove your eligibility). It's not complicated it just asks for your name and address, the child's name and address and their diagnosis. It doesn't need to be signed by a medical clinician as it is just a self-declaration.

We don't need the VAT Relief Form before we dispatch your order, we may send the form to you with your order after the VAT has been removed but if enough information was given in the checkout you may not receive one. If you do then simply complete the form then send it back to us, we even include a stamped addressed envelope to make it free and easier for you!

Important. If you don't send the form back to us and details have not been filled out in the checkout then we will have to come back to you and charge the VAT, but we will never do this without contacting you first so please don't worry!

What you need to do when you order goods

The prices shown on our website exclude VAT, and VAT at 20% will automatically be displayed in your basket until you have ticked the box for Eligibility of VAT Relief. When you get to the second page of the checkout simply tick the VAT Relief Eligibility box (shown below) to confirm that you are Claiming VAT Relief. Then enter the child's medical condition, name and address into the box below. When you press the button to move to the Next Page the VAT charge will be removed from your total.

IMPORTANT It's quite common for the medical professionals not to have worked out exactly what the child's condition is, the exact technical term. Having a 'label' doesn't exclude you, the expression 'Global Developmental Delay" is the general term for "we are in the process of getting a formal diagnosis".

If you do not tick the box to Confirm that you are Claiming VAT Relief then VAT at 20% will be added to your order.

BUSINESS CUSTOMERS

If you are purchasing for a Business, School or Local Authority then you claim VAT back through your accounts, so DO NOT tick the box in the checkout to claim VAT Relief. If you are using charitable funding (fundraised funds) then you can claim VAT Relief but you will need to fill out a Charity Eligibility Declaration instead, please contact us directly for one of these.

CHARITY CUSTOMERS

If you are a registered charity or a School/Council/Private Business purchasing on behalf of a Charitable Fund then tick the box to claim VAT Relief and fill in your details (registration number/explanation of funds/child's details) in the checkout below the tick box, you may then be contacted to fill in a Charity Eligibility Declaration for your purchase.
